This is my maternal families history and how they arrived to America. The maternal side of us is the most important, it is the one who brought us into existence!
I am the most proud granddaughter of Orlando and Marie Janni. They had one daughter, Alma, she is my mother. I made a promise to him that I would return to Sicily to see the beautiful paradise we came from.
First noticeable thing was, someone changed our surname from Ianni to Janni. I often ask myself why? Did they just think it was a J on the ships manifest and someone misread the handwriting? Not sure, but those practices happened a lot getting off the ships in the early 1900s.
The history below was taken from the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth, MI. They have the rooms named after founding families of Frankenmuth. This has several errors as my grandfather, Orlando, his siblings Fiore, Victoria and Raymond were all born in San Pietro, Sicily, not Italy.
