In Palermo, the absurd has become standard. Ferrandelli (a member of the Christian Democrats) proudly shares a video bragging about deploying undercover municipal officers to fine citizens who throw their garbage in the morning into official city bins. Yes, you read that right: not in the streets, not in illegal dumps, but in the regular containers provided by the municipality!
According to this enlightened mind, the real issue isn’t the inefficient collection service, the overflowing bins, the lack of proper waste management, or the fact that Palermo has the highest waste tax in Italy. No. The problem is citizens behaving like normal people and throwing away their garbage outside the designated evening hours. And for that, they should be fined.
Is this the new model of governance? Raising funds by penalizing honest taxpayers instead of improving collection schedules or providing more bins?
AT THE EXPENSE OF WORKERS: THE CASE OF ASPRA (BAGHERIA)
Same script, different stage. In Aspra, a seaside village of Bagheria, Mayor Filippo Maria Tripoli (also from the Christian Democrats, the so-called “new face of change”) is threatened by a street vendor. Why? Because someone sold beer to minors, and the kids caused chaos.
How does the mayor respond? With a stroke of genius: he SHUTS DOWN ALL STREET VENDING UNTIL SEPTEMBER.
Not just a ban on drinks. But a total ban on summer street commerce, punishing even those who work honestly and depend on summer earnings to pay off winter debts. A decision that makes no distinction, doesn’t investigate, doesn’t seek justice – it simply crushes an entire category of workers.
THIS IS A HITLERIAN METHOD.
Punishing an entire community for the mistake of one is the same logic once used to raze entire villages in retaliation. It’s the idea that the people should suffer collectively because those in charge are incapable of justice.
Is this governance? Planting spy cameras but failing to find a single culprit, then punishing 20 workers instead?
AND THE POLICE? PUBLIC SAFETY?
What are the municipal police doing? Where is law enforcement? Drinking coffee in bars? Fining those who take out the trash at 8 in the morning?
They can’t maintain public order, but they’re always ready to squeeze the citizens.
CONCLUSION: THE FINE MAFIA AND THE INCOMPETENCE OF OUR OFFICIALS
Ferrandelli, Tripoli, and the whole gang of barstool administrators have one single strategy: always make the citizen pay.
They can’t manage, can’t protect, can’t tell workers from criminals. So they make blanket rules. And honest workers… pay for everyone.
And then they wonder why people lose trust, why nobody believes in institutions anymore – institutions reduced to squeezing the poor to fill their coffers.
ARE THESE THE NEW FACES OF CHANGE? CAN YOU GOVERN WITHOUT COMMON SENSE?
EITHER SICILY CHANGES COURSE, OR IT SINKS LIKE THE TITANIC.
With these incompetent, reckless officials incapable of understanding the real needs of the people, Sicily is headed straight for disaster.
And if today it’s sinking because of them, tomorrow it will sink because of the complicit silence of all those so-called “respectable” citizens who stay quiet and comply, feeding a system that first crushes the weakest… and then drowns them too.
